My colleague Kim and I were laughing about a story we read online. The topic was "office husbands," and it dealt with women who "have a platonic intimacy with men at work." Though we can't say we're currently in such a relationship, we agree it sounds interesting, especially if he can:
1. Warm up the computer, fluff up the copier, and have breakfast ready when we get in.
2. Offer to go get coffee, with a squirt of hazelnut syrup, before we put on our sweaters to head out the door. Especially if it's cold and raining.
3. Say "What can I do to help?" every 15 minutes, and then actually help.
4. Remember that compliments, such as "That Powerpoint presentation brings out the blue in your eyes," go a long way.
5. Bring a casserole, along with 25 handwritten recipe cards, to the next working lunch.
6. Repair a leaky laptop.
7. Give us each $10 and say, "Buy yourself something nice at Office Depot."
8. Keep extra pairs of knee-highs in his desk.
9. Open doors—to promotions!
He's hired!
